If there’s one game soundtrack that deserves a spot in our Video Game Boombox, it’s the music from the Sega Genesis version of Cool Spot. Never heard of Cool Spot? Back in the early ’90s, Cool Spot was the charismatic mascot for the 7Up soft drink company. Picture Minions, but cooler and with a penchant for soda. Like any iconic mascot of its time, Cool Spot ventured into the realm of video games, and personally, it was one of my favorites on the Sega Genesis.
Although Cool Spot was released on other systems, each version had minor differences, especially in the soundtrack department. What made the Genesis version stand out was its music, composed by the talented Tommy Tallarico. The soundtrack is nothing short of amazing, but if I had to single out one track, it would be the Bonus-level theme. It’s a musical masterpiece that stands toe-to-toe with anything from Super Mario Bros. or Sonic. Trust me, it’s worth a listen!
Have you ever played Cool Spot? What is your favorite soundtrack from a forgotten game? What is your favorite Sega Genesis game soundtrack? Leave your comments below!
Don’t forget you can hear this track and many others that we have posted over the years on our new Spotify playlists. Give it a listen!

I’ve remember Cool Spot during those 7-Up commercials, and I do remember the game, albeit in passing, but never the soundtrack. After hearing that clip I like it a lot. It fits with the Cool Spot vibe perfectly. 😀
