Ray’s Vinyl Review- Namco Museum Arcades Greatest Hits!

This was the album that got my gears turning to do these reviews in the first place! I have been the biggest fan of the Namco Museum series for decades- and when I found out they had created an album of all of the music and sound effects of their biggest classics- you know I had to have a copy! Sadly, it’s out of print now- But you can still find it on eBay- For a pretty penny!

Now this beauty came out in 2015 and there were several additions that you could buy. One was the Pac-Man edition that the vinyl looked like Pac-Man had a yellow Pac-Man with the mouth… It also had a Galaga edition, the Splatterhouse edition as well but I got the original which was a clear vinyl with multicolored speckles that looks like  fireworks!

this album is a lot of fun it has several different arcade screens that you can use in the front of the sleeve like Pac-Man, Mappy, and Galaga. There’s also a book inside that’s part of the album and it goes over some of the small history about each machine…kind of like the Namco museum series but an album form…now all there is on this is the sound effects and the music we’re applicable for example of course Pac-Man you’re going to get the startup music and the sound effects… Galaga the same thing…  but once you get up into the later games like Rolling Thunder and Splatterhouse you’ll actually have music playing.

If I would have done anything different on this album I would have added the background music from the actual Namco museum series because they put a lot of effort into those songs that would play on the disc, and I’m going to leave some of those in the review here on the page so that you can actually listen to them. That would have been a welcome addition to the already amazing track list that’s here.

The vinyl like I said is a clear see-through vinyl and has multicolored neon speckles now of course they’re not going to be perfect… mine is missing some on one corner and that’s because of the process but it’s still beautiful nonetheless and is an excellent part of my vinyl collection.

Let’s take a look at the video for the full review!

This almost made a five out of five but this one. I think because of the track selection… I mean you’re talking about games some of which are over 40 years old… it really did not have a soundtrack but just sound effects- it would have been nice to add the soundtrack from the Namco museum series and add a few sporadic sounds in between each song.

With that being said it’s still an amazing album. It’s great for parties! I’ve left a eBay link right here You can see they’re not very cheap- The average price is between 75 and $100 given its production run. The clear ones seemed to go for more money.

Bonus video- The Namco museum soundtrack from the actual compilation discs!

Now if there is another Namco Museum album in the future- MAKE IT THIS!

Keep playin’ like it’s 1981!

and if your interested- and you have the extra cash- go check out eBay! https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=…

  1. It’s really cool that an album like this was made, and having scoured through Amazon and stumbled upon some video game albums that weren’t digitized I’m glad some companies out there know that there are audiences eager for these kinds of things.

Plus it’s interesting that they didn’t make just one type of vinyl album but several, as you said. Personally I think I would have been torn between the Pac-Man version and the Galaga version.

Great review, and here’s to seeing more album stuff! 👍 😀
