Hey Arcaders!
If you have followed my posts on the site- you know how much I love the Atari 8 bit series of computers.
The Atari 400 was my very first computer in 1982.
The hours (and days) I would spend writing programs, doing line by line graphic programs ( looooong before Photoshop) or just running the Atari rainbow- just because it the coolest thing EVER-
…And then saving them to my trusty Atari 410 cassette drive!

I had that trusty Atari 400 for about a year- When a friend of mine was upgrading to the Atari 1200 series- and sold me his Atari 800. I had to jump at the chance- it was upgradable to 64k of onboard memory! I loved my 800- but the memories with my Atari 400 that started my love of computing. I still have my 800- but I’ve always hoped that there would be a Atari 8bit mini to collect.
Well- fast forward to a few days ago- when Atari announced the 400 Mini! from their site-
The 400 Mini is a half-sized version of the distinctively styled Atari 400, emulating the whole 8-bit Atari range from the 400 to the 130XE, and the Atari 5200 home console. Also included is the CXStick, a recreation of the classic Atari CX40 joystick, with an additional seven seamlessly integrated function buttons and USB-A connectivity.
Play one of the 25 built-in games, including: Lee, Berzerk, Millipede, Miner 2049er, M.U.L.E, and Star Raiders II. Save your progress at any point in one of four save slots per game, or even pause and rewind gameplay to help you through the most difficult parts — a feature new to the 400 Mini. Play your own compatible games via a USB flash drive.

I’m definitely getting one of these! HDMI, play any game from the Atari 8bit line (spoilers- there’s a lot of great games to be played on these machines!) This little machine has me hooked! Atari is really stepping up!
If you would like to get one of these- check out Amazon or the Atari website!
Keep Playin’ Like It’s 1981!

As someone who has begun to discover Atari’s library via the Atari 50 compilation this is amazing news. 😀 Though the compilation I have doesn’t have the 400 library one can hope.
