RayGunn’s High Score Review!

Hey Arcaders!

Let’s talk High Score– the new six part documentary on Netflix. This one kind of came out of the blue for me. There have been a lot of video game documentaries. Some are great (Once Upon Atari is one I liked) some.. not so much for me (Videogames, the Movie– I’m calling you out!) I’m really going to have to do reviews on them as well.

Once I saw the trailer for High Score- it peaked my interest- a documentary not just about the games, or the players…but focused on the designers and programmers (some of which have never done interviews!) I had to watch. And… I wasn’t disappointed.

Right off the bat, it felt like an episode of The Toys That Made Us- which is a great thing. Also, having Charles Martinet- The voice of Mario- narrating… was genius. Another thing I loved about the series, was the chapters- focusing on an era or genre of gaming, and making the flow seamlessly was fantastic. Which should be no surprise- one of the executive producers, France Costrel- has some experience with this subject: she also directed the seven part series- 8 Bit Legacy: The Curious History of Video Games for Great Big Story (a part of CNN). Which seems to be the case for this series as well.

Let’s talk about the episodes (spoiler free where I can.)

Greetings, Fellow Arcaders!

I have been waiting almost 40 YEARS for this to Start!

So- as you may have noticed, we did a little redecorating here at the Archives! It’s a birthday celebration for a character, a family, and a series of games that re- defined the arcade industry from the moment he arrived on the scene.

Who’s he?

He- is Pac- Man.

And if you don’t know who Pac- Man is…

You need to leave your official Arcader Badge at the door.

He. Changed. Everything.

Wanna see? Ok.

Lets take a trip back to the 1970s.

RayGunn Visits The Vector Volcano Classic Arcade In Bend, Oregon!

VecVoltitle copy

Hey Arcaders!

My wife’s family were planning a huge reunion for the beginning of August In Oregon. In doing research on Sunriver and it’s surrounding areas I found out that they had an arcade in Bend, about 25 miles from where I was! Not just any redemption style with new kiddie games and a Galaga, But a REAL WORKING classic video arcade!  And on August 4th, I had the opportunity to go to Bend (A beautiful town, by the way) and visit The Vector Volcano.  And it was awesome! The owners, Brett and Danielle were very nice and they were excited to see all the old Arcaders in and enjoying their favorites and the young Arcaders playing games that were popular long before they were born! The place was packed when I was in, and whole families were having a great time (even some of mine!)

The room is styled like an arcade right out of the early 80s! The attention to detail was amazing! The game selection would keep anyone busy for a very long time! Brett has been collecting since 1996, and it shows! Every screen clean, crisp, and vibrant, and the cabinets and their artwork have held up well- they look almost new! And all the games were working great! What I liked the most was his selection of the lesser known games- watch the video below and you will catch glimpses of Tapper, Cheyenne, Tutankham, Bubbles, Popeye, Zookeeper, and more! The even had a jukebox that played 45s in the back!

Here’s a list of the games they had while I was there-

Asteroids, Bubbles, Burgertime, Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Dragon’s Lair, Galaga, Gorf, Journey, Joust, Kick, Marble Madness, Mario Bros., Millipede, Missile Command, Mortal Kombat 2, Pac-Man, Popeye, Q*bert, Qix, Rampart, Robotron: 2084, Star Wars, Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, Tapper, Tempest, Tron, Tutankham, Warlords cocktail, Zookeeper, 4 slot Neo Geo (Metal Slug 1, Puzzle Bobble, Windjammers, League Bowling)

Black Knight, Centaur, Fathom, Fireball 2, Firepower, Flash Gordon, Gorgar, Medusa, Space Invaders

The best part is THEY ARE ALL ON FREE PLAY!

You can buy an hour pass, or an all day wristband!

Go to http://www.vectorvolcanoarcade.com and learn more about this amazing piece of arcade history!

I want to thank Brett and Danielle for allowing me to do this video review! and if you are visiting Bend Oregon , WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING? GET DOWN TO THE VECTOR VOLCANO TODAY!

The PIXELS Trailer Is Here!

Pixels header

Hello There Arcaders!

This is the one movie I can say I have been looking forward to seeing the trailer!

Pixels is based on a short film by Patrick Jean he did back in 2010.

Check it out-

Now, we will have the feature film starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson and Jane Krakowski.

By the pics I have seen- primarily the movie posters- the effects look amazing!

And look at their jumpsuits- They’re ARCADERS!

The film isn’t coming out until July 24, but we have the first look!

Could this be the redemption that Adam Sandler and Kevin James need?

We will find out this summer!

Resident Evil Bio-hazard Inspired Acrylic Earrings By Fabrication Unlimited

Fabrication Unlimited is an awesome store on Etsy that I found. They have awesome acrylic jewelry. I also love that their products come packaged in boxes with their company name on it. It shows they really care about their product brand.

Now lets talk about these bad ass earrings shall we! I mean just look at these awesome bio hazard earrings. I love the vivid color of the red. It really makes them stand out. I also love that even though they are good size earrings they aren’t heavy! That is a problem I have with earrings all the time is the weight of them. They are also one piece of laser cut acrylic. These are a great addition to your wardrobe and a must have.

The card that the earrings arrive on have a message from the store owners thanking you for your purchase which I think is awesome! They also have a ton of awesome items available for what ever your geeky little heart desires. They also offer special orders! With the holidays quickly approaching I defiantly suggest this store as a win for that special someone in your life! I know I saw a couple items I need to order to help finish my shopping list!

Space Invaders Accessories by Level Up Crafts Review

I want to say right up front the color scheme that I reviewed isn’t available in the Level Up Crafts store yet! This makes it even cooler for me to test out a new color; which by the way I love!  The color scheme I’m reviewing is a red and white set.  I was going to review a necklace and an adjustable ring; however when I opened the package to my surprise every package comes with a thank you gift which was an awesome hair pin!

The red in all three items is amazingly intense with a bit of a glitter to it. It’s not a weird red either, you know how you buy some red items and it’s not really red? That isn’t the case with these products you want red that is what you get. Also the white is a pure white not a dingy white.

If you think these items might be super heavy you are very wrong. I actually own earrings that weigh more! That doesn’t make them cheap, they are all high quality. Plus it’s great to be able to wear video game inspired accessories with my t-shirts! I mean I rock a pretty mean gameboy shirt I need the perfect thing to wear with it!

These are also items that people are going to notice when you where them! I had several people tell me my jewelry was so cool, of course I always tell them where they can get their own.  Of course video game styles aren’t the only style you can purchase there is also comic book characters, zombie hands, and much more to choice from.
