Hey Arcaders!
The Atari 2600 is one of the best classic systems for homebrew games. I’ve shown some of them in my Homebrew Spotlight series. From original ideas, to arcade ports- these games really shine and bring life this amazing platform. But news has come out that a new game publisher that will make new original games for the system. What makes this news interesting- the publisher was founded by one of the original founders and game designers of ACTIVISION!

This week, former Activision Co-Founder David Crane and ex-Activision Game Designers Garry and Dan Kitchen announced that they have partnered to form Audacity Games, Inc., a video game publisher focused on designing and publishing boxed game products for a variety of retro game systems, starting with the Atari® 2600™ Video Computer System™.
Audacity Games poses itself as a premium retro-game publisher. Every game produced by the company is manufactured to order, and each copy is customized with a unique serial number. Every game connects to the internet through your connected mobile device for registering high scores, gives the player a chance to earn a physical high score patch like those from the golden era of 2600 games, and comes in a full-color box with the colored label and printed manual to add to your game collection.
“With the popularity of retro video games, we saw an opportunity to create new titles for these still popular systems”, Audacity Games co-founder Garry Kitchen said, “and it gives us all a chance to design games again for the platforms that helped launch our careers.” Co-founder David Crane added, “For years our fans have been asking us to create new games. We heard you, and have decided to do just that. I have always said that I have as much fun making games as others do playing them, and the retro game systems are my favorites.”
Just a day later, Audacity has announced the first two games: Circus Convoy and Casey’s Gold
The brand new, never before released game CIRCUS CONVOY™, designed for the Atari® 2600™ by David Crane and Garry Kitchen, is a multi-screen action-adventure where gamers play as “Andre the Magnificent”, a circus strongman tasked with finding a saboteur among the speeding convoy trucks and sideshow trailers of a travelling Big-Top circus.
Audacity’s second game, CASEY’S GOLD™, designed for the Atari® 2600™ by Dan Kitchen, is scheduled for release in summer 2021. Kitchen’s game, originally announced in 2018, features a train conductor named Casey O’Kelly who must search for lost gold bars aboard a runaway western-style steam train. This game was actually started in 1983 as a sequel to one of my all time favorite Activision games Keystone Kapers- aptly titled Keystone Kannonball! Thanks to Crimefighter for this video!
